Applications are invited for:
Poultry Veterinarian/Junior Poultry Veterinarian in the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice (Appointment for 4 months with possibility of extension)
Project
Provision of veterinary services to ensure and support the health and productivity of the chicken farms in Hong Kong.
The overall aim of this project is to support sampling and laboratory diagnostics to ensure the desired impacts in terms of improved poultry health and production in individual poultry farms, while enhancing the economic and environmental sustainability of poultry farming in Hong Kong, for the benefit of individual farmers as well as society in general.
Duties
1. Develop production and health management programme for poultry farm clients in Hong Kong;
2. Provide production and health management service to poultry farm clients in Hong Kong (including visits to local poultry farms, assessment of production and health condition of poultry farms, performing disease diagnoses, and providing recommendations for disease prevention and control);
3. Provide training and supervise Veterinary Assistants;
4. Maintain poultry veterinary practice records, and work with farmers to produce farm level electronic records on poultry health and production; and
5. Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A DVM or equivalent from a HKVSB recognized institution with at least 5 years of experience in poultry medicine. Excellent interpersonal skills and willingness to communicate directly with Veterinarians, farmers and students; ability to work with individuals from different disciplines; and excellent supervisory, multi-tasking, organisational and problem-solving skills, with ability to evaluate new processes, implement plans, and develop preventive/corrective action are required. Experience in commercial clinic set-up (including in-house lab and pharmacy, and electronic record systems); and proficiency in Cantonese and Putonghua are desirable. Holder of a valid Hong Kong driving license (Class 1 and 2) would be an advantage.
Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Junior Poultry Veterinarian.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
