Benefits

As a member of the Ohio Veterinary Medical Association, you will have opportunities to gain knowledge, make your voice heard, and have access to invaluable resources. Our community is rich with expertise, opportunity and value — when you need it, as you need it.

Knowledge

The OVMA offers a plethora of learning opportunities, ranging from continuing education to professional development. By taking advantage of these offerings, you will not only expand your knowledge of veterinary medicine itself, but you will enhance your professional skills as well.

The Midwest Veterinary Conference is perhaps the most valuable CE opportunity the OVMA offers. This four-day annual educational experience offers state-of-the-art scientific programs and information on the latest trends and technology in veterinary medicine. The Conference provides more than 400 hours of CE in 20 tracks ranging from small animal and equine to practice management and staff development, with world-renowned experts in all areas of veterinary medicine. In addition, attendees have the opportunity to network with other veterinary professionals during social events and browse new products and services in the Exhibit Hall, featuring almost 200 companies.

In addition, the OVMA is able to offer its members online CE at a discounted rate through a partnership with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

The OVMA also offers special members-only one-day programs that provide training in practice management, regulatory, staff support, and scientific expertise. Work to stay one step ahead of the game, and expand your horizons.

As an OVMA member, you will also have many opportunities for professional development. Make a difference and impact the organization by joining one or two of our many Committees, which offer leadership opportunities and the chance to network with colleagues from across the state. If you are a recent graduate, you are eligible to participate in Leadership Institute, OVMA's professional development program.

Voice

Achieve together what you cannot alone. As an advocate for the veterinary profession, the OVMA provides one voice on state legislative and regulatory issues through representation before the Ohio General Assembly and other regulatory bodies. The OVMA also monitors new bill and rule introductions within the state, as well as across the country to keep current on trends and ideas that are impacting the veterinary profession.

VETwork, OVMA’S grassroots advocacy network, informs legislators of issues important to this association and the practice of veterinary medicine as a whole. Volunteer veterinarians act as the frontline advocates for veterinary medicine in Ohio. OVMA’s political action committee, V-PAC, is an essential government relations tool. Contributions to V-PAC support elected officials who demonstrate a strong interest in issues important to the veterinary profession. Both of these groups ensure your voice is heard by the Ohio lawmakers and government officials.
